Slider tool: Evolution of the dynamic galactic centre of the Milky Way
Left: The centre of the Milky Way as seen by ESO's ground-based VLT using adaptive optics in 2004.
Right: The centre of the Milky Way as seen by Webb's NIRCam instrument in 2023.
Taken 19 years apart, these images illustrate noticable movement of the field's objects surrounding the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A*, which lies at the very centre of both images.
